Hooked On Oils

 If you’ve ever wanted to learn to oil paint, this is the class for you! If you’ve painted “years ago” and just want to get back into it—this is the class for you! If you are an experienced painter, but are struggling to get a certain “look” that is evading you—this is the class for you! This class will start with the basics: the types of brushes and their use and care, how to mix the color you want every time, warm and cool colors, basics of composition and design, techniques of drybrushing, scumbling, glazing etc will be discussed and demonstrated. The different approaches used by tonalist and colorist painters. Painting done in class will reinforce your understanding of these principles. This class includes all supplies—brushes, paints, canvas—even the paper towels! You can try this medium without fear of having to purchase a thing! This 4-session class is scheduled monthly. Dates: July 11,18,25, Aug 1 or August 8,15,22, 29. Time: 6-8 p.m. Cost $125.00

Graduate Oils

 This class continues from where Hooked on Oils left off. We will continue painting various landscapes, tackling all those painting problems that come up—getting correct values for different lighting conditions, seasons, and times of day. How to paint water—moving or still—and handle the shadows and reflections. Red rocks of our area, and much more! Dates: June 5,12,19,26 or July10,17,31 and extra day of class choice (to avoid holidays.) or August 7,14,21,28. Time 6:-8 p.m. Cost $100.00

Acrylics

 Frank Ray Huff will teach this 2-day Acrylic Painting Workshop where you’ll learn to tackle the elements of a landscape as well as learn to enjoy this fast-drying medium that allows you to almost instantly paint over any mistakes etc! Date: August 16,17. Time 10:00-3:00p.m. Cost $100.

Beginning Drawing

 Come learn (or sharpen) those drawing skills in this two-day workshop taught by James Cook. James has many years’ experience working in illustration, but more importantly—his class is a great help in furthering your drawing skills as evidenced by the before and after pictures seen above. Watercolor While Thinking Like an Oil/Acrylic Painter

 Watercolor is the only medium where you usually think of your lights/highlights at the first of the painting instead of the last. Let Ray Huff show you his approach to watercolor using a method of painting in the darks first! This might be a great class for anyone who’s been waiting to try watercolor because they thought it was “too confusing”! Date: June 21,22. Time: 10:00-3:00. Cost: $95.

Weekly Watercolor

 You’ve asked for a weekly watercolor class and summer is the one time we’re able to fit it in! Each week Lola Krummenacher will discuss principles of watercolor while you do a painting to get hands-on learning of each study. Date: July 6,13,20,27. Time: 10:00-4:00. Cost $100 for all 4 weeks.

Beginning Watercolor

Oil Painting with Sam Lawlor

 Sam is known for his rural scenes usually including women, children, horses etc. With teaching at the college, his schedule has been too busy to teach outside workshops, but we’ve grabbed him during the summer months when school is out to have him teach one workshop—so don’t miss it!
